ORGANIC GARDENS IN PAARL

The Van der Stel Mano guest house is a gunuine neoclassical style farmhouse that is situated in the upmarket suburb of Mostertsdrift in Stellenbosch. Well maintained, the roses are a different colour from spring to spring.

NO 3. RUSTENBERG WINE FARM

National Treasure
Located on the northern outskirts of Stellenbosch this is one of the lesser known tourist attractions people come to see. The gardens contain some beautifully composed hard landscaping features that are as old as the farm itself.

THE FARMHOUSE

Typical of the neoclassical style the gable has a panel in the middle that protrudes past the rest. The red painted raised stoep contrasts with the green lawns, while Simonsberg in the background provides an unforgettabe scene.

THE NEOCLASSICAL PERGOLA

This exhuberant picture perfect garden, consists of climbing flowering plants over a neoclassical style pergola.

PINK BLOSSOMS

A diversity of flowering indigenous plants is to be found in this immaculate Cape Dutch garden.

RAMPLING ROSES

The topiary and rambling roses creates a sense of place in what is quite a secret garden.

DECORATIVE VINES

Pergolas are common on the grounds of Cape Dutch houses, and this one is no exception.

MORE ON VERGELEGEN WINE FARM

NATIONAL TREASURE IN SOMERSET WEST
The expansive property has changed hands numerous times in the last hundred years, and is now open to the public as a highly subsidized museum. An octogonal walled garden lies next to the main manor house, and beautiful lawns and plantings make this the focal point of interest. New wine tasting rooms and a restaurant have been tasteful added with their own indigenous herb gardens.

EXOTIC PLANTS

The cypress type conifers and bogain villas are exotic plants which have come to find their home in this sheltered part of the the Helderberg basin. The hydrangea garden outside the library is shown here.

THE HEXAGONAL GARDEN

The view here is of the manor house as seen across the famous hexagonal garden. The purple flowers are agapanthus, a tough indigenous plant that blooms in the hot summers.

AGE OLD CAMPHOR TREES

The camphor trees have been declared national monuments and are not meant to be touched. The seven trees lie to the South side of the main manor house.

HERB GARDEN IN A MAZE

Children will love to explore the vast labyrinth of topiary and low hedges that surround the working herb garden outside the Stables restaurant and Wine Tasting Centre.

BABYLONSTOREN WINE FARM
